Capital Letters and Full Stops

Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a full stop. Let's learn how to use them!

What Is a Capital Letter?

A capital letter is a BIG letter. We use capital letters at the start of every sentence.

We also use capital letters for names of people and places — like Emma, Sydney, and Australia.

Examples:

the cat sat. → Wrong!

The cat sat. → Correct!

What Is a Full Stop?

A full stop is a tiny dot ( . ) that goes at the end of a sentence. It tells the reader: “Stop! This idea is finished.”

Practice:

  • The dog runs fast.
  • I love school.
  • My name is Aiden.
