Exclamation Marks

An exclamation mark ( ! ) is used to show strong feeling — like excitement, surprise, happiness, or urgency. It makes writing more expressive!

What is an Exclamation Mark?

An exclamation mark looks like this: !

It goes at the end of a sentence instead of a full stop. It tells the reader to read with strong feeling or extra energy.

When to Use It

  • 🎉 Strong excitement: We won the game!
  • 😱 Surprise: There's a spider on your hat!
  • 💡 A warning or order: Stop! Don't touch that!
  • 👏 Happiness: Happy birthday!

Rules for Exclamation Marks

  • ✓ Use ONE exclamation mark, not many (!!)
  • ✓ The word after ! starts with a capital letter
  • ✓ Don't use them in every sentence
  • ✗ Don't use ! and . together

Exclamation vs Full Stop

🔴 We ate lunch. (normal, calm)

🟩 We ate a giant cake! (exciting!)

A full stop ends a calm sentence. An exclamation mark shows emotion!
