Nouns: People, Places, and Things

A noun is a naming word. Nouns are the names of people, places, animals, and things around us!

What Is a Noun?

A noun is a word that names something. Nouns can be:

People

teacher, mum, boy, girl, baby

Places

school, park, beach, shop, home

Animals

dog, cat, bird, fish, kangaroo

Things

book, ball, chair, apple, pencil

Finding Nouns in Sentences

To find a noun, ask: Who or what is this sentence about?

The dog ran to the park.

My teacher read a book.

The bird sat on the tree.

The green words are all nouns!
