How to Read a Story
When we read a story, we need to think about what is happening. Here are some things to look for:
WHO?
Who is the story about?
WHAT?
What happens in the story?
WHERE?
Where does the story happen?
Sam's Big Day
Sam is a little dog. He has brown fur and a big, happy smile.
One sunny day, Sam went to the park. He ran on the green grass.
Sam found a red ball. He picked it up and ran very fast!
Sam was so happy. It was the best day ever!
Understanding the Story

Key Vocabulary
Story
Words that tell us about something that happened.
Character
A person or animal in a story. Sam the dog is a character!
Beginning
The start of the story. What happens first.
Ending
The finish of the story. What happens last.

Lily was a little kitten. She had soft, white fur.
One day, Lily got lost in the garden. She could not find her way home.
A kind girl called Mia found Lily. She picked her up gently.
Mia took Lily home. Lily purred and purred. She was safe!
