Action Verbs

Verbs are action words! They tell us what someone or something is doing. Run, jump, eat, sleep — these are all verbs!

What Is a Verb?

A verb is a word that describes an action or something happening. Verbs are sometimes called doing words.

Common action verbs:

run jump eat swim sleep read write sing play fly

Verbs in Sentences

Every sentence needs a verb! Find the action word to spot the verb.

The frog jumps over the log.

Mia reads her book.

The birds fly in the sky.

We eat lunch at school.

The orange words are the verbs!
