A narrative is a written story. Every good narrative has three main parts: a beginning (introduces characters and setting), a middle (the problem or event), and an end (the solution or resolution). Good narratives also use interesting words and details to bring the story to life.

Beginning
Introduce your characters and setting. E.g. "Once there was a small bear named Bruno who lived in the forest."
Middle
Introduce the problem. E.g. "One day, Bruno got lost and couldn't find his way home."
End
Solve the problem. E.g. "A friendly owl showed Bruno the way home, and he was never lost again."
Key Vocabulary
Narrative
A story that describes real or imagined events. It has characters, a setting, and a plot.
Character
A person, animal or creature in the story. The main character is called the protagonist.
Setting
The time and place of the story, e.g. a forest in winter, or a beach on a hot day.
Plot
The sequence of events in a story — what happens from beginning to end.
