A paragraph is a group of related sentences about one main idea. Good paragraphs have a clear structure.
What You Need to Know
A paragraph is a group of sentences all about the same idea. Each paragraph starts with a topic sentence that introduces the main idea. Then come supporting sentences that give details, examples or reasons. A concluding sentence may wrap up the idea. A new paragraph is started for each new idea, beginning on a new line (and often indented).

Example paragraph:
Dogs make wonderful pets for families. They are loyal and loving companions who enjoy spending time with people. Dogs can be trained to follow commands, which makes them easy to care for. They also encourage their owners to exercise by going for regular walks. For all these reasons, dogs are truly a family's best friend.
