🔢 Number Recognition
We see numbers everywhere! Let's learn to recognise numerals 0 to 20 and match them to the right number of things.
🔢 Numerals 0 to 10
A numeral is the symbol we write for a number. Each numeral matches a quantity — a count of things.
Tip: Count out loud as you point to each numeral. Say "zero, one, two..." all the way to ten!
🔢 Numerals 11 to 20
The numbers after ten all have a 1 in the tens place. They are called the teen numbers!
Worked Examples
Example 1: Count the dots
Count the dots below. Which numeral matches?
There are 7 dots. The numeral is 7. ✅
Example 2: Match the numeral to objects
The numeral 13 — how many objects is that?
Count them: 1, 2, 3... 13! The numeral 13 matches 13 objects. ✅
Example 3: Which numeral is larger?
Is 9 or 15 larger?
15 is larger because it has more objects — and comes after 9 when we count. ✅
