Multiplication as Groups

Learn to multiply using equal groups of 2, 5, and 10! 🔥

What is Multiplication? 💡

Multiplication is a quick way to add equal groups together. Instead of adding the same number again and again, we can multiply!

3 groups of 2 = 2 + 2 + 2 = 6
We write: 3 × 2 = 6

Groups of 2 🚴

When we have groups of 2, we can count in 2s or multiply!

Example: 4 groups of 2

2

4 × 2 = 8

Count by 2s: 2, 4, 6, 8

Groups of 5 🥇

Groups of 5 are easy because we count in 5s! This is super helpful for telling time too! 🕐

Example: 3 groups of 5

5

5

5

3 × 5 = 15

Count by 5s: 5, 10, 15

Groups of 10 💰

Groups of 10 are the easiest! Just add a zero to the number of groups!

Example: 4 groups of 10

10

10

4 × 10 = 40

Just add a zero: 4 + 0 = 40!

Skip Counting Helps Us Multiply! 🔢

Skip counting means counting in jumps. It makes multiplication super fast!

Count by 2s

2 4 6 8 10

Count by 5s

5 10 15 20 25

Count by 10s

10 20 30 40 50

Knowledge Check

Let's practice multiplying with groups! 🎯

Question 1

What is 5 × 2?

Question 2

There are 3 boxes. Each box has 5 pencils. How many pencils in total?

Question 3

What is 4 × 10?

Question 4

Skip count by 5s: 5, 10, 15, __, 25. What is missing?
