Reading Calendars and Dates

Year 3 students read calendars to find days, dates, and durations, and understand months, weeks, and years in context.

What You Need to Know

A calendar shows 12 months, and each month has between 28 and 31 days

Days of the week repeat every 7 days; there are 52 weeks in a year

Dates are written in day/month/year format in Australia (e.g. 15/03/2026)

Duration can be calculated by counting days or weeks between two dates on a calendar

A year with 366 days, where February has 29 days, occurring every 4 years
