Progress Check โ€” see how far your child has come

Once a child has done their original diagnostic, the parent dashboard now shows a Progress Check card per child and subject. Run it any time โ€” it re-tests at the level above the child's current school year, then lays the result side-by-side against the original so you can see strand-by-strand growth (Number, Algebra, Reading, Writing, etc.) with up/down arrows showing which areas have improved, held steady, or still need work.

The whole point: tutoring centres charge $80/wk and can't prove progress. We can. The original snapshot is preserved forever, so you always have a baseline to measure against.

Each Progress Check shuffles question order and answer-option positions, so kids can't pattern-match what they saw last time โ€” the result reflects real growth, not memorisation.

Built for parents who want a "12 weeks of progress" report, not just a star count.

๐Ÿ”ง Improvement

Stretch-test any year level without changing your child's classification

Parents wanted to see how their kid would go on harder material โ€” a curious Year 4 trying a Year 8 paper, for example. The dashboard now treats your child's actual school year as the source of truth: lesson recommendations always follow their real year level, and the test year shows up as a "tested at Year 8" footnote on the result card. Sandbox-test all you like; it won't pollute their classification, recommendations, or future Progress Check defaults.

Voice input for Pax the AI tutor

Students on lesson pages can now speak their questions to Pax instead of typing. A small microphone icon appears next to the input field โ€” tap it, speak, and your question is transcribed and sent automatically. Uses your browser's built-in speech recognition, so audio never leaves your device and there's zero API cost.

Asked for by a parent โ€” younger kids and ADHD kids found typing a friction. Shipped same week.

Founder story published: Why I built BrightPath for my ADHD son

A personal piece on the real origin of BrightPath. My son has ADHD, I have ADHD, and nothing on the tutoring market met him where he was. So I built it. Read the full story โ†’

๐Ÿ”ง Improvement

Multi-currency billing โ€” your local currency at checkout

BrightPath subscriptions now bill in your local currency โ€” AUD, GBP, USD, CAD, NZD, EUR or SGD โ€” determined automatically by your location. No more FX conversion surprises on your bank statement.

๐Ÿ™‹ Customer ask

Customer reviews โ€” now you can share yours

A logged-in family can now leave a public review on the Reviews page โ€” star rating, short title, and their take. Reviews are moderated before publishing.

๐Ÿ”ง Improvement

Smarter weekly emails for dormant families

If your child didn't complete any lessons during the week, instead of silence or the usual progress email, you'll get a gentle re-engagement note from Pax. No guilt-tripping โ€” just "here's where you left off, jump back in when you can".

๐Ÿ”ง Improvement

International family support โ€” localised terminology

Content now shifts to local curriculum, terminology and spelling based on your region. UK families see Reception / GCSE / Key Stage; US families see Common Core and grades; Canadian families see provincial curriculum; New Zealand sees NCEA. Same underlying platform, localised per family.

๐Ÿ™‹ Customer ask

Weekly parent progress email

Every Sunday you get an email summarising what your child worked on that week โ€” lessons, XP, streak, strongest and weakest subjects, plus an AI-written note from Pax. Honest reporting, no inflated progress bars.

Asked for by multiple founding families โ€” "I want to know what's actually happening without having to log in."

โœจ New feature

Spaced repetition reviews

Every lesson and quiz now schedules a 3-day review. The Study Room surfaces what's due so your child revisits content before they forget it. Cuts "I did this last week and now I can't remember" syndrome.

โœจ New feature

Refer a friend, earn free months

Every family has a unique referral link (Dashboard โ†’ Settings). For every friend who subscribes using your link, you get one free month credited to your subscription. No cap, no expiry.

โœจ New feature

6-month billing option

Between monthly and annual. Save 10% vs pure monthly. Good for families who want commitment-lite savings without locking in a full year.

โœจ New feature

Promo codes at checkout (EARLY50)

You can now apply a promo code during signup. Founding families get 50% off the first 3 months on monthly plans with code EARLY50.

๐Ÿ”ง Improvement

Dynamic quiz questions โ€” no two quizzes the same

Every quiz now pulls questions live from our question bank with randomised options. Kids doing the same lesson twice get different question sets โ€” reinforces learning instead of rewarding memorisation.

โœจ New feature

Free diagnostic placement test

A 10-minute adaptive test that identifies exactly where your child is in Maths or English โ€” topic by topic, not just year-level. Completion generates a personalised starting plan. No credit card required.

๐Ÿ”ง Improvement

Prev / next navigation across all 1,586 lessons

Every lesson now has previous-lesson and next-lesson links at the bottom โ€” no need to go back to the course index between lessons. Keeps the flow going for kids in a groove.

โœจ New feature

Dark mode โ€” sitewide

Evening homework hits different in a dim room. Dark mode added across 1,600+ pages โ€” toggles automatically with OS preference, or use the toggle in Settings to force one mode.

โœจ New feature

"This Week's Plan" on the dashboard

Parents and kids now see a weekly plan of suggested lessons right on the dashboard. No wondering "what should we do today?" โ€” just click and go.

โœจ New feature

Quiz remediation with visual learning aids

When a child gets something wrong, a visual explainer automatically steps in โ€” number lines, diagrams, worked examples โ€” to guide them to understanding before they try again. No more repeating the same prose explanation at a kid who's already lost.

โœจ New feature

Holiday Mode โ€” pause up to 6 weeks per year

Going on school holidays? Pause your BrightPath subscription for 1 to 6 weeks per year, anytime. No billing while paused, progress saved, resume with one click from Settings. Annual subscribers get their billing period extended by the pause duration.

โœจ New feature

Family Rewards โ€” real tickets, real prizes

Children earn tickets for completing lessons and quizzes. Parents choose what the tickets unlock โ€” screen time, a trip, ice cream, anything. It's a gamification layer the family controls, not the platform.

โœจ New feature

Multi-child support โ€” one family account, multiple kids

Add multiple children to a single BrightPath account. Each child gets their own profile, progress tracking, and learning plan. Siblings get 50% off on Year 1+ plans.

๐Ÿ“ Content

1,500+ new lessons โ€” full K-12 coverage

Added 1,500+ new interactive lessons covering Years 1 through 12 across Maths, English, Science, Financial Literacy, Coding and more. Every lesson aligned to the Australian Curriculum v9. Content breadth is now the broadest on any Australian online-tutoring platform.

โœจ New feature

Ask Pax โ€” AI tutor launched

Pax the Koala went live. Students can ask any question about the lesson they're on and Pax explains it age-appropriately โ€” not just handing over the answer, but guiding them toward the "I get it" moment. Connected to multiple AI providers for reliability.

๐Ÿ“ Content

First 194 lessons shipped โ€” launch day

BrightPath went live with a lessons browser and 194 lessons across 16 subjects, plus the first version of the diagnostic placement test. The minimum viable product that a real family could use that same day.

๐Ÿ”ง Build

Build begins

Architecture decisions locked: static HTML with interactive JS (kid-safe, fast on any device), Node API + SQLite (simple, owns its data), Docker + nginx on one VPS (cheap, fully controllable). First lessons written. Pax character designed. The curriculum mapping for Year 4 Maths and Year 3 English built out as the pilot subjects.

๐Ÿ“ Research

Research phase

Three months of reading. ACARA's full Australian Curriculum v9. UK National Curriculum for comparison. The evidence on spaced repetition, diagnostic-first placement, ADHD-friendly lesson structure. The existing edtech space โ€” what Khan Academy, IXL, Cluey, Atomi, Mathspace, Atom Learning, Tassomai all do and don't do. Talking to other parents about what they actually wanted. Slowly realising that nobody was doing diagnostic-first, founder-led, AI-tutor-assisted in a way that worked for kids who learn differently.

๐Ÿ“ Genesis

The idea

September 2025. My son brought home a note from school โ€” the same kind of note that had been written about me 30 years earlier. Both of us have ADHD. I looked for a tutoring platform that would meet him where he was, not where the average student was supposed to be. Nothing fit.

I started sketching what one would look like. On paper first โ€” short lessons, diagnostic-first, instant help, honest reporting โ€” then in code a few weeks later.

This is the origin of BrightPath. The full founder story is on the blog.
